Wa alaykum salam wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuHu,
The “mut’ah marriage” is a marriage contracted until a specific time or event; for example, a man marries a woman for a month or until he departs from the city. When the time lapses or the event happens, then the marriage is concluded. This particular type of marriage was prohibited by the Prophet Muhammad (upon him be peace). ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (Allah be well pleased with him) narrated the prohibition happened at Khaybar, this is related in both Bukhari and Muslim. This type of marriage was permissible at first and then it was abrogated (ar: mansukh). According to the Shafi’i Madhhab, this type of marriage is unlawful. (Kitab al-Umm 5/85; Tuhfat al-Muhtaj 7/224)
And Allah knows best.
