Bismillah

Assalamu Alaykum,

One ṣā’ (صاع) is 2.03 litres. That comprises of 5 ½ Iraqi riṭl, or 4 mudd (مد). This makes each mudd 0.5075 liters, which for ease is often seen rounded off as 0.51 liters.

According to the Shafi’i school, Zakat al-Fitr must be given in the staple food of ones locality. [Minhaj al-Talibin, Kitab al-Zakah] The Hanafi school permits paying Zakat al-Fitr by giving its monetary equivalent, which has been said to be preferable in the the school. [Al-Durr al-Mukhtar] It is permissible to act upon this view, as our scholars have explicitly stated that it is not obligatory to follow one madhhab in all of ones dealings.
