Question: As salamu alaykum, I suffer from a medical condition. I break wind constantly and cannot control it. Do I need to prepare for salah in a certain way? If I perform wudu and go to the masjid for salah can I pray with that wudu? What about for Juma?
Wa alaykum salam wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuHu,
The person suffering from intermediate drops of urine [salas al-bawl] is likened to the woman with irregular vaginal discharge [istihadah]. Bulqini adopted the same course for one suffering from uncontrollable flatulence [salas al-rih]. (Hashiyat al-Jamal 1/242) Therefore, the manner in which one in such a situation needs to prepare for prayer is similar to those cases which his is comparable to. The difference between how one with uncontrollable flatulence prepares for the prayer and those in other comparable situations is that, so long as there is no filth coming out, one with uncontrollable flatulence need not perform istinja. (Hashiyat Nihayat al-Muhtaj 1/334)
One’s washing for prayer must be done after the prayer’s time has entered. Upon washing, one must hasten to perform the obligatory prayer. There is no problem with delaying one’s performance of the obligatory prayer for something that is in its interest, like covering one’s nakedness, waiting for the congregation, going to the mosque, etc. Regarding waiting for the congregation, it is of no consequence if the time spent waiting is lengthy. (Hashiyat al-Jamal 1/242; Hashiyat Nihayat al-Muhtaj 1/334)
And Allah knows best.
